Monthly Purpose

When I was pregnant with SWHS, my husband and I looked into saving cord blood cells mainly because a family member was suffering with a life-threatening illness and these stem sells may have helped. Unfortunately, she came a month early and threw all of our plans off kilter. But I started thinking about stem cells again after reading an article about some advances in stem cell research.

On July 30, 2008, Harvard and Columbia University researchers reached a milestone when they generated embryonic-like stem cells from the skin samples of an elderly ALS patient. The researchers were then able to coax these cells into healthy nerve cells that could potentially help a sick person. With science making such gains, it may be only a matter of time before stem cells research develops life saving techniques.

In fact, I recently came across some information that may serve as an alternative to stem cell collection.

A woman’s menstrual cycle contains stem cells that may help prevent future illnesses such as Alzheimers, Parkinson, and more. In November 2007, scientist discovered that the cells collected from a woman’s menstrual sycle replicate 70 times faster than those collected from an umbilical cord. These cells can then be produced into 9 different cells such as the heart, liver, and lungs. And, it only takes 5ml of menstrual blood.

C’elle provides women with a chance to collect their own stem cells during their menstrual period and safely transport them to the C’elle lab for Cryo-preservation. What I really like about C’elle is that they make no guarantees and are very upfront about the fact that it may be years before any one knows how the cells work. And while there are no concrete answers as to how stem cells may prevent or cure disease, it is definitely worth exploring. In fact, from viewing the C’elle Client Testimonial videos, it is easy to see that planning for future health issues is painless and customer-friendly with C’elle.
