It’s All About the Invitations

My best friend, Miss Cross My T’s, is planning her wedding and I am helping her pick out invitations. Of course this means that I have to reminisce about my own wedding. And of course, I have to write a blog entry, because everyone loves to talk about their wedding planning experiences. Right?

When I was planning my wedding four years ago, I hated looking through big catalogs for that perfect invitation. But, it had to get done. There were so many options to choose from: folded, flat, ribbon, ecru, ivory, purple, hearts, flowers, oh my. And of course cost. I did not want to pay a lot for my invitations. We were paying for our wedding ourselves, and, despite my mother’s warning that the invitation was the most important aspect of the wedding, I did not want to spend a arm or a leg. However, I did not want my invitations to look cheap. I wanted them to be elegant and representative of our personality. They had to be different.
I took out the post-its and a pen and marked up catalogs with notes of “love it” and “hate it” and then, after hours days of searching, I had narrowed it down to 25 invitations. Then 15. Then, eventually, 10. I nagged my husband for days weeks to help me decide on one. After the major butt-kicking, he gave in and I chose a tri-fold invitation that did not need an envelop and was sealed with a monogrammed sticker. I loved them!

I always said that I would never, NEVER, want to plan my wedding again. But, helping Miss Cross My T’s look for an invitation that best represents the love that she shares with her partner, is making me want to redo my own wedding. I want to be bolder. I want to choose and invitation that makes everyone say, “WOW”. More importantly, I want a reason to visit this site every day.

What was your invitation experience like?

This comment is completely unrelated to your post – but I just read your comment on organization at emom (Wendy’s blog). I was wondering what program you use to sync your palm to your mac. I have had nothing but trouble using Missing Sync with my treo and mac and am quite interested in your success story!
