You came back! You Like me, you really like me!. Great. I appreciate your loyalty. Now leave some comments it's the only adult interaction I get!
Happy Holidays everyone! If your Christmas (if you celebrate it) was half as good as mine then you should be very happy! This year we decided to add a dog to the mix- a beautifully well-tempered dog named Bucket (my daughter named him). Isn’t he adorable?! While we made this decision so that my daughter would have a playmate, we did so also because of the exercising benefits.
We live in as apartment and since making the decision to work from home I have become somewhat of a shut in. I homeschool my daughter and then work as a writer, web designer, Blogging Consultant, and am co-founder Moms of Hue and the We of Hue Network the rest of the time. I have very little reason to leave the house outside of doctor’s appointments and the occasional family outing. This has proven to be disastrous to my health as I have gained weight which is in direct opposition to what I need to do. So, the decision to get the dog came from a need to force myself to brave NY winters and get my butt and my daughter’s butt outside.
And it has.
We live on the second floor but have to climb about 35 steps to actually get there- 20 to get to the front door of the building and then another 15 to get to my door. I have been climbing those steps twice daily at the least since bringing Bucket home. In addition, my daughter and I, along with buddy walk roughly .25 miles when we take him out for his afternoon walk. In addition, in the morning we have begun walking an additional .5 mile and plan to work our way up to 3 miles. As you can see, I have already begun to get more exercise since Christmas Eve than I have probably done all year. All this walking combined with my daily EA Active exercise (once I get the doctor’s approval to continue) will help me reach my overall goal.
It is so important to get up an move. I feel better than I have in a long time because I am forcing myself to exercise. Those trips up and down the stairs count. The brisk walks of the dog around the neighborhood count. It all counts and I plan to continue getting exercise in any way that I can.
What do you do tho get more exercise in?
I’m sosoooooososooso jealous of your new dog. I so wanted one for Christmas! Anyways, We did get a Wii and that thing is fabulous. Been working my buns off! Very fun too:) You barely notice your working out! Glad you had a nice holiday:)

I gave up going to the gym with my hectic schedule and started doing Jillian Michaels DVD. I used to think DVD workouts did not get results but I’ve been doing it for a few weeks and now have tons of energy and have lost weight.
I am so there with you. Friday not because of new years but just because a lot of people are starting off the new year with healthier options I will be really getting back into my exercise routine. My kids need to see mommy and daddy walking the walk. They are walking with us too now and they of course love it! This is going to be fun. It’s time to get healthy…
My best, Lynn

What do I do to get the exercise in? Not enough! Haha, actually I’m a devout yogini, but try to look at my practice as anything but physical exercise. Housework is the extent of my physical exercise,I take great pains to get the most out of it. I pay special attention to my core whilst lifting and bending and make the most of every extension. It’s not ideal, but from one shut-in to another, it does make a difference. Best of luck to you, and welcome Bucket!

Congrats on the family dog! Walking/chasing the dog is an awesome way to get exercise! I mean, when you own a pet, even when you don’t “feel” like it, you kinda have no choice – so its like a built in personal trainer (lol). I really need to step up my exercise game, as I’ve gotten lazier over the last couple years. What little energy I do have seems to be sapped by my 1 tyear-old, but I know thats really no excuse. Thanks for this post- I needed to read it!

Congrats on starting your exercise rountine! I also purchased a dog almost 3 years ago to help me with my excerise rountine. Believe me…it really works! Aside from walking the dog I’ve found that 20 minutes of playtime also helps to burn calories. My dog isn’t very good at sharing lol so we play a game of “I’m coming to get your toy”. After 20 minutes of letting her get the toy, taking it back, running to another room with it and starting all over again I work up quite a sweat. You should try it!
