The Goal

What matters most is who I am trying to become. Everyday I strive to become a compassionate human being with a love of art, humanity, and diversity. I am hoping to become a strong role model for my daughter and a much better mother than my own.

I want to be more.

More than just another mom, another teacher, another wife, another sister. I want to be remembered for being unique, honest, loving, and intelligent.

The RAW Me

Sometimes who I want to be is in complete opposition to who I am. Sometimes fighting the urge to be flat out crude and crass is difficult. Other times, it is the easiest thing in the world to do, but I choose not tot do it because I would feel cheap. I warn you that if you tend to be sensitive or if you know me in real life, remember this is my blog and I write to clear my head.

I respect honesty and sincerity. I prefer loving words spoken in muted tones and natural affection. I love life and despite my many complaints, I would rather be alive than not. I am a bookworm, and old-time music lover, and romantic comedy junkie. I am addicted to crime shows and spend most days listening to various real-crime TV shows.

I love smelling the first rain on the cement.

I like blogging and computers and presents.

But most importantly, I like freedom.

The Politics and The Religion

I like the freedom to express myself, to love, to dislike, to care, to not care. I like the idea of America and I wish that we were all more true to that idea rather than trying to classify and put things into a box.

I do not believe in God and cannot stand when people think that means they should convert me. No need; I have read the Bible in it’s entirety and think it is a great work of literature. I do believe in Karma.

The Family

My husband and daughter truly make me happy. I live for them and despite my strong feminist beliefs, I do not think this makes me any less of an independent woman. In fact, I think this is what being a woman is about– loving freely and openly.

I have known my husband for 15 years. We were friends first, then lovers, then grieving-engaged-parents, then husband and wife and now as PowerParents. He is my soul mate and my best friend and I am with him because I am a better person with him. We are constantly changing and growing and we have learned that those changes mean that we must always be reevaluating and rethink the way that we interact with each other.

Our daughter Mya was born 4 weeks early on April 27, 2006 at 3:21 PM. She has given me a whole new outlook on and purpose in life. I love watching her, and I find myself laughing for hours on end as she learns about the world. We are a homeschooling family and plan to do so as long as possible.

The Reading

Well-written words also make me happy. Reading an artfully woven sentence is almost as rewarding to me as well, writing one. I am a writer at heart and therefore have a love of reading. I can find joy from the simplest phrase or the most intricate Shakespearean passage and will cry when words are used to convey the ultimate feeling of loss, love, and hope. In other words, I read quite a bit.

The Writing

When my words are artfully woven, I am at peace.

I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I started out writing poetry and then quickly moved to short stories, articles, advice columns, editorials, reviews, and even erotica. I created and ran an online magazine called Epiphany a Celebration in Writing for almost 5 years. I now freelance at TravelingMom.com, NYMetropolista.com, Moms of Hue, and others.

The Blog

This blog has gone through many changes. I started it back in 2004 and it was really just about my first year teaching and life as a married woman. Then it became my pregnancy journal in 2005. Now it’s my life-journal as I strive to be better. You will find various entries about family, health, teaching/education, and more.

Occasionally, I write reviews of products after being given products by various companies to try, and some of my links are affiliate links and help me pay the bills. I am 100% honest in my writing and while I may receive incentives to write reviews, I do not accept offers that force me to write anything that I do not believe is the truth. For more information, please read my disclosure policy.
